How to apply?
Basic Information
- Every application for the Hons BTh, MTh and DTh studies at UNISA has to be handed in to GBFE. Please note:
- Applications for the MTh and the Hons BTh programs are to be handed to the respective GBFE member institute. All necessary forms can be requested from those institutes.
- Applications for the DTh program can be sent directly to the GBFE office. You can download all necessary application forms from the website under the category "forms" or request them from the GBFE office.
- Consultation and information (fees, requirements, study process etc.)
- The consultation for the MTh studies is carried out by the GBFE member institutes, provided that you are certain about the area of expertise you want to do your research in. If you are still not sure about your area of expertise it is possible to confer with GBFE academic dean Dr. Dr. Volker Kessler. The leaders of the MTh programs in the institutes are listed under „About GBFE->Institutes". Please contact them for all information concerning tuition fees, applications and study process.
- The consultation for DTh studies is carried out by the GBFE academic dean Dr. Dr. Volker Kessler. The administrative service and support during the application as well as the study process is provided by the GBFE office (Arthur Rempel).
The Application Process
- The application process at GBFE: The applications are to be handed in to the GBFE institutes (Hons BTH, MTh) or directly sent to GBFE (DTh) (see above). Here the applications are checked and once complete transferred to UNISA with a letter of recommendation.
- The application process at UNISA: When received, the application will be examined by the administration of UNISA for completeness and qualification of the candidate. Afterwards the respective department will study the proposal of the MTh dissertation or DTh thesis from an academic point of view. Not until a positive decision of the department is made will the registration (matriculation) and the appointment of the mentors/tutors take place. The studies start with the registration.
Time Limit and Duration of Application
- The academic year at UNISA starts January 1st and ends December 31st. The registration for the current academic year has to be completed by February 28th. First time applicants can register for the following academic year from July 1st.
- The duration of an application before registration varies. In most cases you will look at a period of three months. Yet sometimes (e.g. incomplete applications, callback on the proposal etc.) the application process can take up to six months. Please also consider that UNISA takes a long holiday from the middle of November until the end of January.
