Unisa – University of South Africa
Unisa and GBFE
GBFE cooperates with the University of South Africa (Unisa). Unisa is presently the oldest and largest distance education university in the Southern hemisphere, currently with 300.000 students. The cooperation between GBFE and Unisa began in 1998 with the “School of Religion and Theology”. Since then, it has expanded to other disciplines within the “College of Human Sciences”.
Open distance learning
Unisa is internationally recognized as a flexible distance learning university with a high educational level. When you study at Unisa, your supervising professors are merely a telephone call or an e-mail message away. Distance learning enables you to decide individually when and where you study.
The study process will be supported from a distance by tutorial papers, internet ressources, personal communication between students and lecturers and other appropriate means.
Unisa’s approach of “open learning” is based on the following principles: focusing on the students, life-long learning, recognition of prior education and the safeguarding of strict quality standards in the preparation of study materials and student support structures.
On the basis of intergovernmental agreements, the degrees awarded by Unisa are recognized in most countries in the world.
GBFE contributes significantly to Unisa’s research output and to the number of postgraduate students, particularly in the field of theology.
Eighty percent of the students at Unisa study part-time.
Their average age is 30 years. The task and purpose of GBFE is to enable GBFE students to receive a well-founded academic postgraduate education.
Those pursuing research projects can apply for research grants.
GBFE finances itself mainly through membership and tuition fees. For about one third of our budget we are dependent on donations from friends, partners, supporters and sponsors who are concerned for the educational opportunities provided by the GBFE. A sponsoring partnership with the GBFE is one possible way to provide financial support(link). We are very grateful for any support of our work.
GBFE exclusively and directly pursues academic purposes. It is registered as a non-profit association and entitled to issue tax-deductible donation receipts in Germany.
