Theology with roots and wings
Europe finds itself in the deepest religious crisis. For a long time now there has been talk of a post-Christian Europe. This is first of all a crisis of leadership in Christian churches and organizations. Therefore it is one of theological education.
The theory and the practice of faith as they are taught in universities and churches diverge. The Network for Education and Research in Europe (GBFE) makes an effort to overcome that ditch. It's a matter of education, which understands theology as a practical science; it's a matter of theological research, which spreads over all areas of life and crosses intentionally the borders of other scientific disciplines.
The picture of roots and wings is a good way to demonstrate the goals of GBFE. GBFE wants to equip its students with deep roots in scripture and creed. At the same its goal is for them to find and to practice the freedom of a Christian life. This freedom crosses borders without fears in order to openheartedly meet people of different background and creed. GBFE wants to pursue theological education in a missional context.
